May 2009 I have been telling friends for years that fried chicken sales are a trailing economic indicator. I would say, "When people stop eating fried chicken you know you're in trouble." They always thought I was joking. I really wasn't. I look at 2 things when evaluating a local economy. Chicken sales and hotel occupancy. If people are staying at home eating pimento cheese sandwiches, they are not out spending money on flat screens or four wheelers. For those of you who subscribe to my philosophy..I have good news. Chicken sales are up. |
